Lucknow: After it has become clear that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would form a majority government in Uttar Pradesh, the talk has completely shifted to who can be the next chief minister of the state. Names of many heavyweights have come forward. But, the most surprising name that has cropped up is of BJP chief Amit Shah. The powerful election strategist deserves the seat. But will PM Narendra Modi take the big responsibility of the party from his perfect soldiers?
Amit Shah has the required experience. He was the home minister of Gujarat under Narendra Modi’s leadership and was recognized as a tough administrator. The state of Uttar Pradesh suffers from a bad law and order and Amit Shah could be the medicine that the ailing state needs.
This is for the 1st time that the Bharatiya Janata Party would build a majority government. They couldn’t even do that when the ‘Ram Lahar’ was blowing over the north-western plains. The party had a hard time building its support base and would not want to give it away. So, a powerful and popular leader would do the job for the state. Another reason that a popular leader could be asked to lead from the state is that the party would set its eyes on 2019 Elections. The BJP had won 71 out of 80 seats in the state in 2014 and would have to repeat the same performance if it wants to return to power at the Centre.
