Víctor Mederos is a Cuban professional baseball pitcher who currently plays for the Atlanta Braves of Major League Baseball. Born on June 8, 2001, in Santa Clara, Cuba, Mederos immigrated to the United States with his family as a child and grew up in Miami, Florida. He made his Major League Baseball debut in 2023 with the Los Angeles Angels organization and was traded to the Atlanta Braves in April 2026.
Early Life and Background
Mederos was born in Santa Clara, Cuba, in 2001. In 2008, when he was seven years old, his family obtained travel visas that allowed them to travel first to Costa Rica and then to Mexico before eventually entering the United States. The family was permitted entry into the country through the wet feet, dry feet policy, which at the time allowed certain Cuban nationals who reached American soil to remain in the country. They settled in Miami, Florida, where Mederos would spend the rest of his childhood and develop as a baseball player.
Amateur Career
Mederos attended Westminster Christian School in Miami, where he developed into a highly regarded baseball prospect. After graduating from high school, he enrolled at the University of Miami and began his collegiate baseball career with the Miami Hurricanes. He later transferred to Oklahoma State University to continue his college baseball career with the Oklahoma State Cowboys. In 2021, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Chatham Anglers of the Cape Cod Baseball League, one of the premier summer baseball leagues for college players.

The Los Angeles Angels selected Mederos in the sixth round, with the 178th overall selection, of the 2022 Major League Baseball Draft. He signed with the organization shortly after being drafted and began his professional career with the High-A Tri-City Dust Devils. In six starts with Tri-City, he recorded a 5.63 earned run average with 15 strikeouts across 16 innings of work. He began the following season with the Double-A Rocket City Trash Pandas, where he made 12 starts and posted a 5.98 earned run average with 71 strikeouts across 55 and two-thirds innings.
Major League Debut with Los Angeles Angels (2023)
On June 30, 2023, the Angels promoted Mederos to the Major Leagues for the first time in his career. He made his MLB debut shortly after his 22nd birthday, joining the Angels bullpen as a relief pitcher.
