Patrick Timothy Kane II (born November 19, 1988) is an American professional ice hockey right winger for the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected by the Chicago Blackhawks with the first overall pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft and played for the Blackhawks until February 2023 when he was traded to the New York Rangers. Kane has represented the United States at the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics. He established himself as one of the most productive and decorated players of his era, winning three Stanley Cups, the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP, and becoming the first American-born player to win both the Hart Memorial Trophy as MVP and the Art Ross Trophy as scoring champion. Early Life and Background
Patrick Kane was born to Donna and Patrick “Tiki” Kane in Buffalo, New York. His father was a season ticket holder for the Buffalo Sabres and frequently took his family to games. Kane developed an early interest in hockey and was inadvertently featured in the background of a 1994-95 Pinnacle trading card while attending a Sabres game as a child. Heading into the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Kane was ranked second among North American prospects by the NHL Central Scouting Bureau and was chosen first overall by the Chicago Blackhawks. On July 25, 2007, the Blackhawks signed him to a three-year contract. Kane made his NHL debut on October 4, 2007, against the Minnesota Wild and recorded his first shootout goal as a game-winner two days later against Dominik Hasek of the Detroit Red Wings.
