Mats André Zuccarello Aasen (born 1 September 1987) is a Norwegian professional ice hockey winger currently playing for the Minnesota Wild of the National Hockey League (NHL). Standing at 5 feet 8 inches and weighing 179 pounds, Zuccarello has built a reputation as a dynamic offensive player despite his compact frame. He is widely regarded as one of the best Norwegian players to ever compete in the NHL and is one of only nine Norwegians to have played in the league. Zuccarello previously played for the New York Rangers and Dallas Stars before joining the Wild in 2019.

Early Life and Background

Zuccarello was born in Oslo, Norway, and grew up in the suburbs of Løren. He began playing hockey at the age of five, first joining Hasle-Løren before moving to Vålerenga, where he played until completing lower secondary school. Zuccarello returned for the playoffs, but the Stars were eliminated by the St. Louis Blues in double overtime of Game 7 in the second round.

Minnesota Wild (2019-Present)

After leaving the Stars as a free agent, Zuccarello signed with the Minnesota Wild on 1 July 2019, agreeing to a five-year, $30 million contract. He quickly became an integral part of the Wild’s offensive attack, bringing veteran experience and playmaking ability to the team.
