James Proche II Bio
James Proche II is an American professional football wide receiver who currently plays in the National Football League. He played college football for the SMU Mustangs and was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Proche has also played for the Cleveland Browns and currently represents the Tennessee Titans. He earned PFWA All-Rookie Team honors in 2020 and was a two-time First-team All-AAC selection during his collegiate career at SMU.
Early Life and Background
James Proche II was born on September 21, 1996, in Dallas, Texas. He grew up in the Dallas area and originally attended Red Oak before transferring to DeSoto High School for his senior year due to academic concerns with Prime Prep. At DeSoto, he caught 18 passes for 335 yards and a touchdown in his only season with the Eagles. He appeared in only seven games during his senior year after suffering kidney failure during summer training camp, which interrupted his development. Rated a three-star recruit coming out of high school, Proche committed to play college football at SMU over offers from Colorado State, Louisville, Maryland, TCU and Wake Forest among other programs.
Path to American Football
Proche redshirted his true freshman season at SMU, using that year to develop and adapt to the college level. The following season, he emerged as a significant contributor, finishing second on the team with 57 receptions for 709 yards and six touchdown catches. As a redshirt sophomore, he caught 40 passes for 816 yards and six touchdowns while his average of 20.4 yards per catch ranked 13th best in the nation. He was named First-team All-American Athletic Conference during his redshirt junior year after leading the team with 93 receptions for 1,199 yards and 12 touchdowns. In his final collegiate season, Proche caught 112 passes, leading the nation in receptions, for 1,225 yards and 15 touchdowns and was again named First-team All-AAC. He was also recognized as a Second-team All-American by the Football Writers Association of America.

Early Career (2020)
Proche entered the 2020 NFL Draft after an outstanding college career at SMU. At the NFL Combine, he ranked fourth overall in the bench press with 20 repetitions and posted a 4.40-second time in the 20-yard shuttle. He was selected in the sixth round with the 201st overall pick by the Baltimore Ravens, joining a franchise coming off a playoff appearance. Proche made his NFL debut on September 13, 2020, in the season opener against the Cleveland Browns, returning two punts for 26 yards in his first professional game.
Baltimore Ravens Era (2020-2022)
Proche saw action throughout his rookie season with the Ravens. In Week 11, he caught his first pass of the season for a 14-yard gain during a 24-30 overtime loss to the Tennessee Titans. On March 26, 2025, Proche signed with the Tennessee Titans. He was released on August 26 as part of final roster cuts and re-signed to the practice squad the next day. On November 18, Proche was signed to the active roster, continuing his NFL career with his third franchise.
