Isaiah Lyn Campbell Career
Seattle Mariners (2023)
Campbell was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the second round with the 76th overall selection of the 2019 MLB draft and signed for an $850,000 signing bonus. He did not play professionally that season and did not appear in any games in 2020 due to the cancellation of the minor league season caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Campbell made his professional debut in 2021 with the Everett AquaSox of High-A West, pitching 19 and one-third innings and going 3–1 with a 2.33 earned run average, though his season ended prematurely after undergoing elbow surgery.

Upon his return, the Mariners converted him to a relief pitcher to minimize stress on his elbow, and Campbell thrived in his new role. He allowed only an unearned run on eight hits and one walk while striking out 20 batters in 15 innings for the AquaSox. This performance earned him a promotion to Double-A with the Arkansas Travelers in August 2022, where he posted a 3.46 earned run average and struck out 24 batters while walking only two. The Mariners added Campbell to their 40-man roster on November 15, 2022, to protect him from the Rule 5 draft.
Campbell opened the 2023 season with the Double-A Travelers and dominated in his first 23 appearances, compiling a 6–0 record with a 2.63 earned run average, 27 strikeouts, and 2 saves across 24 innings. He earned his first major league call-up on July 6, 2023, and debuted the following day with a scoreless inning and one strikeout. This debut made him only the second Portuguese-born player in major league history, joining Frank Thompson who played twelve games in 1875. After three appearances with six strikeouts, he was optioned back to Double-A on July 19 but returned three days later and earned his first major league victory against the Toronto Blue Jays. In total, Campbell appeared in 27 games for Seattle in relief, finishing 4–1 with a 2.83 earned run average and one save.

He struggled during his time with Boston, making eight appearances in 2024 with a 16.20 earned run average and six strikeouts over 6 and two-thirds innings. While on optional assignment with Triple-A Worcester, Campbell was placed on the injured list with right elbow inflammation on July 23, 2024. He was transferred to the 60-day injured list on September 7, ending his season.
Campbell was designated for assignment by Boston on November 19, 2024, and non-tendered on November 22, making him a free agent. He re-signed with the organization on a minor-league contract that same day.
