KTR announces over one lakh double-bedroom houses for poor and weaker sections in the city; 10,000 houses to be completed this year alone

The Telangana government will construct 10,000 double-bedroom houses for the poor and weaker sections in the capital city of Hyderabad this financial year.

This was announced by Minister for Information Technology and Panchayat Raj K T Rama Rao here on Thursday. He said foundation stones would be laid soon for the construction of 10,000 double-bedroom houses in the city. He was speaking at a meeting after laying stone for construction of 205 double-bedroom houses at Rasoolpura in Secunderabad Cantonment area in the morning.

A string of foundation laying ceremonies for double bedroom houses for the poor were held at several places across the city on Thursday. Several ministers and GHMC officials participated in the ceremonies at different places.

Addressing the gathering at Rasoolpura, KTR said Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was keen on providing double-bedroom houses to the poor and weaker sections in the State. In the next four years, over one lakh houses would be built for the homeless. In Hyderabad alone, 10,000 houses would be built this year, 25,000 next year and 50,000 in the coming years. “No other State in the country has taken up such an ambitious project. The government is very proud of this scheme and is planning all details meticulously,” he said, citing the example of the scheme completing one phase with houses at IDH Colony.

The State government had announced plans to make Hyderabad hut-free and slum-free city by providing 1.08 lakh double-bedroom houses. There are about 1,450 slums in GHMC limits. The minister also pointed out that the TRS government had achieved rare distinction in distributing land pattas to 1,80,000 poor people.

He said the government had found a lasting solution to the drinking water crisis in the capital city by bringing the Godavari and Krishna rivers. Besides, the State government was implementing several welfare schemes including supplying of fine rice to government schools and Social Welfare hostels to feed the poor students.

Laying foundation stones for double bedroom houses in Saicharan and Lambadi basti under Bagh Lingampalli limits, KTR said the KCR government was constructing the houses for the poor without collecting even a rupee from them. He also disclosed that 400 houses would be built in the Musheerabad Assembly constituency in the first phase. He also exhorted the people not to believe the greedy middle men for the houses. If there are more applications for the houses, the beneficiaries will be selected by lottery system, he said, adding that the TRS government’s goal was to wipe out tears of the downtrodden sections.

The minister also went round the Saicharan Basti and asked the residents about the implementation of the government schemes. Responding to a housewife Jayamma’s querry, the minister said the government would provide jobs to the youth soon.

Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali, Home Minister Nayani Narsimha Reddy, BJP floor leader in the Assembly Dr K Lakshman, GHMC Additional Commissioner Gourav Uppal were present.
