Bismack Biyombo Sumba (born August 28, 1992) is a Congolese professional basketball player who currently serves as center for the San Antonio Spurs of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Selected seventh overall in the 2011 NBA draft by the Sacramento Kings, Biyombo has built a reputation as a relentless defender and dominant rebounder throughout his career. Over his 15-plus seasons in the NBA, he has played for nine franchises, including extended stints with the Charlotte Bobcats, Toronto Raptors, Orlando Magic, and Phoenix Suns. Biyombo was born in Lubumbashi, Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of Congo), to parents François and Françoise Biyombo. Charlotte Bobcats and Hornets (2011-2015)
Biyombo was drafted seventh overall by the Sacramento Kings in the 2011 NBA draft, but his rights were traded to the Charlotte Bobcats on draft night. When starting center Jonas Valančiūnas suffered a fractured hand, Biyombo stepped into the starting lineup for 18 straight games between mid-November and late December.
On March 17, 2016, Biyombo scored a career-high 16 points and set a Toronto franchise record with 25 rebounds in an overtime win against the Indiana Pacers. The Raptors finished the regular season with a franchise-record 56 wins and advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in franchise history. In Game 7 of the conference semifinals against the Miami Heat, Biyombo recorded 17 points and 16 rebounds as a starter. Orlando Magic (2016-2018)
After declining his player option with Toronto, Biyombo signed a four-year, $72 million contract with the Orlando Magic on July 7, 2016. He made his Magic debut later that month. On January 12, 2018, he scored a career-high 21 points in a loss to the Washington Wizards. On April 4, 2018, he recorded a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds while adding a career-high five assists in a win over the Dallas Mavericks.
Return to Charlotte (2018-2021)
On July 7, 2018, Biyombo was traded back to the Charlotte Hornets in a three-team deal. He recorded a season-high 19 points in a narrow victory over the Detroit Pistons in November 2019. On November 1, 2023, Biyombo signed with the Memphis Grizzlies but was waived on January 10, 2024. On February 10, 2024, he signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder. During a game against the Portland Trail Blazers on March 6, 2024, Biyombo unexpectedly collapsed on the team sideline due to dehydration. He was cleared of any serious medical condition and was able to leave the court under his own power.
San Antonio Spurs (2025-Present)
On February 9, 2025, Biyombo signed a 10-day contract with the San Antonio Spurs. After completing two consecutive 10-day contracts, the Spurs signed him to a contract for the remainder of the season on March 3, 2025.
